ReplyDeleteJust as eclectic as I've come to expect from you, Doc! Low budget horror rubbing shoulders with critically acclaimed classics! "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" at number 2 is a bold choice and I must say I was surprised by a lack of the old Universal horror movies. I was also hoping to see "Midnight Cowboy" on there but hey, it's your list and with the amount of movies you watch I'd imagine you could easily do a top 250 list that wouldn't be short on masterpieces and classics.
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope you do more lists like this. Maybe top tens by genre or something. I'm fairly familiar with your tastes when it comes to horror thanks to HMP but it's cool to see what movies are your favourites outside of that genre. There're quite a few on here that I haven't seen yet but I will add them to my list post-haste.
The more I think about "Texas Chain Saw" being at number 2 the more it actually makes a lot of sense. It's as visceral, pure, affecting and unforgettable a piece of cinema as can be.
ReplyDeleteI always say that it's one of those rare movies that's so vivid and gritty you can almost smell it. The dry dusty earth, the rotting vegetable matter and the sickly hum of putrefying meat. It's an ugly but wholly impressive feat.
Interesting list! Only 8 of these are my kind of cinema, a few more I have seen but not by my choice...lol. Still it is an interesting list and I need to go through your archives to read why these choices are your top 25.
